Indian Coast Guard to open 12th station at Kavaratti
Kozhikode, July 29 (UNI) The Centre proposes to open a separate Coast Guard district for Lakshadweep by early next year in view of the strategical importance of the region, Director General of Coast Guard Prabhakaran Paleri said today.
A blue print in this connection has been prepared by the Coast Guard and submitted to the government for formal approval, he said at a function organised by the Calicut Chamber of Commerce and Industry here.
He said efforts were on to get the nod soon while considering the changing security scenario in the region.
To be headquartered at Kavaratti, the proposed district would be the 12th station of the Coast Guard, he added.
