Hooda unsatisfied with paddy MSP
Chandigarh, July 29 (UNI) Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda today urged the Central government to reconsider its decision on the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of paddy, as the hike of merely Rs 10 per quintal was inadequate in view of the increase in the cost of production.
In a statement issued here today, the Chief Minister said that the MSP of paddy should be increased by atleast Rs 50 per quintal and the revised MSP should be announced well in time. The MSP of Rs 580 per quintal fixed for common variety and of Rs 610 per quintal for fine variety, grade-A, was meagre, he added.
He said as the cost of production had increased manifold, so the government should increase the MSP in the larger interest of the farming community.
While refering to the bonus of Rs 50 per quintal given in case of wheat earlier, Mr Hooda said while revising the MSP for paddy, either the MSP be increased by at least Rs 50 per quintal or the additional amount be given to the farmers as bonus on the pattern of wheat.
Mr Hooda said he would meet the Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar to urge him to increase the MSP of paddy.
even earlier he had urged Mr Pawar to give a considerable hike to the MSP for paddy, he said.
