Former Delhi University employee held for cheating
New Delhi, Jul 29 (UNI) Crime Branch of Delhi Police has arrested a former Delhi University employee who duped a Reader of Rs 3.5 lakh for allegedly getting his daughter admitted to a medical institute.
The police arrested 65-year-old Nihal Chand Khatri for cheating Dr Ragubir Vedalankar on the pretext to getting his daughter admitted first to King George Medical College then later to the MBBS course at Banaras Hindu University, police said today.
The accused had taken the money as a bank draft on the name of KGMC and then he along with his associate Damodar Prasad Pandey had opened a bogus account on the name of KGMC in State Bank of India, Lucknow, to encash the amount.
After failing to secure admission of the girl at KGMC and under pressure from Dr Vedalankar, Khatri and Pandey assured the Reader of admission for his daughter at BHU, which also proved to be a hollow claim.
Dr Vedalankar then went to the police which promptly arrested the former DU employee.
Khatri, who had retired in 2002 as cyclostyle operator, had been arrested in 2001 for faking BHU certificates.
He had also cheated people in his locality through a chitfund racket.
More people were expected to be arrested in the case.
Meanwhile, in another case North East Police arrested a 27-year-old man for duping one Mohd Usaid Qamil of Rs 3.05 lakh on the pretext of providing him visa for United Kingdom.
