Drop guns, take up work culture: Rio

Kohima, July 29 (UNI) Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio has urged the Nagas to change their attitude and move from ''gun culture to work culture'' to usher in progress in the state.

Prioritising the need to foster development, Mr Rio said even if there was a political solution, nothing will happen unless the Nagas change their attitude.

Signifying that progress was feasible in peaceful atmosphere, he urged the people to shun ''gun culture and embrace the dignity of work''.

Mr Rio who was speaking at the commissioning of Chathe Minor Irrigation Project at Chumukedima near Dimapur yesterday, also dwelt on the consumerist attitude of the Nagas and said the '' Nagas have to be a producing society''.

In a slight departure from his usual stance on the Naga political issue, the Chief Minister said Nagas were always chanting for ''sovereignty''.

Expressing satisfaction with the department concerned for completion of the project, Mr Rio said a number of schemes are in the offing under the Bharat Nirman Project and asked the department to come up with a master plan within a period of ten years.
