'Don't allow terrorists to drag on through adjournment'
Srinagar, July 29: President A P J Abdul today urged the judiciary to find a method so that terrorists are not allowed to drag on through multiple adjournments and multi-level appeals.
''I would suggest that the honourable justices assembled here should take the responsibility to ensure that both law and justice become convergent and point in the same direction,'' Dr Kalam said while addressing the diamond jubilee celebrations of the Jammu and Kashmir high court at Sher-e-Kashmir International Convention Hall today.
He said one of the important issues which is to be addressed in Jammu and Kashmir is terrorism.
The judiciary can find a method by which cases pertaining to terrorism are dealt with on priority and they are not allowed to drag on through multiple adjournments and multi-level of appeals, he said.
Dr Kalam said that a system needs to be designed to resolve the issue fast without sacrificing the principle of natural justice.
This is an important area where all the members of the judiciary and the legal community have to work together towards a lasting solution, he said and added make truth prevail irrespective of the level of the stature of the affected parties.
He said speed of delivery of justice is crucial for citizens.
Create a mechanism for handling of societal crimes.
'' Courts have a tendency to give the benefit of doubt to the accused purely due to technical reasons. Here, I am reminded of the famous statement of Nani Palkivala--law is somewhere and justice is somewhere else,'' he added.
