Dead foetus removed after 15 years

Khargone, Madhya Pradesh, July 29 (UNI) In a rare instance, a dead foetus weighing about 1.5 Kg was removed from a 35-year-old woman's womb 15 years after she conceived.

The surgery was performed at the district hospital here yesterday.

According to Civil Surgeon Dr Viraj Phalke, Renubai conceived two years after her marriage with Revata, but her menstrual cycle started in the seventh month of pregnancy and the foetus remained in the womb.

Due to abject poverty, the couple did not approach any qualified doctor. She got treatment for stomach pain from mendicants and unqualified doctors from time to time. The couple adopted a boy two years ago.

Dr Phalke said it was strange that Renubai did not suffer any infection in the past 15 years.
