Create awareness among people on cancer: Rangaswamy

Pondicherry, July 29 (UNI) Pondicherry Chief Minister N Rangasamy today exhorted health professionals to create awareness among the public about the cause of disease like cancer so that people could be saved by taking preventive measures.

Inaugurating the 11th surgical update and workshop on "Dysphagia and Cancer Stomach" organised by the Indian section of the international college of surgeons here today, Mr Rangasamy said his government was keen on providing healthcare service both in urban and rural areas so that people were not forced to go to metropolitian cities outside Pondicherry for treatment.

Stating that the per capita medicial expenditure in Pondicherry was Rs 1015, he said the efforts of the privately managed medical colleges were also supplementing the healthcare system.

Around 200 delegates from various parts of the country were taking part in the deleberation in the workshop, which was also offering continued medical education programme for the PG students.
