Corporate companies give facelift to police stations in city

Bangalore, July 29 (UNI) Wearing of helmets by both the rider and the pillion in Bangalore and other major cities of Karnataka is mandatory from August one, City Police Commissioner N Achyuth Rao said today.

Speaking to newsmen here after participating in the inauguration of newly constructed Cubbon Park Police Station here, he said he had not received any communication from the government so far with regard to relaxing the rules to exempt pillion riders from wearing of helmets.

Earlier, Inaugurating the new police station, built at a cost of Rs 55 lakh former Director General of Police S Mariswamy said Corporate companies had so far extended a financial assistance of Rupees 13 crore in rebuilding and renovating as many as 40 police stations 15 of them of traffic, in the city.

He said the concept, introduced during his tenure as the city police commissioner, had received laurels and was being emulated in the entire country. Union Home minister Shivaraj Patil had appreciated the new concept of private participation in improving the working places of the police personnel, he recalled adding that focus was given to retain the designs and beauty of the old structures, he said.
