Comm links to 10 villages in Kolhapur disrupted after rains

Kolhapur, July 29 (UNI) Communication services to ten villages in Shiurol tehsil of the district have been disrupted today following incessant heavy rains for the last three days and subsequent release of water from irrigation dams.

During the past 24 hours, the district has received a total of 689.1 mm rainfall, even as the Radhanagri tehsil recorded 131 mm rainfall in the same period, according to the weather department.

District collector office and irrigation department here today said three villages - Khidrapur, Rajapur and Rajapurwadi have been marooned and boats have been pressed into service to shift villagers to safety. Besides, the communication links to seven villages - Aurwad, Gaurwad, Alas, Bubnal, Shedshal, Ganeshwadi and Kavathe-Guland have got snapped and because of the roads and the Aurwad-Wadi bridge being water-logged, the traffic moving through these places has been dirverted via Kagwad village.

Sources also said 1,05,945 cusecs of water has been released from Koyna dam, 14,806 cusecs from Warna dam, 4,800 cusecs from Radhanagri dam and 1,690 cusecs from Tulshi dam, resulting in flooding of rivers flowing through the region.

The Government machinery in Kolhapur and Sangli has already been asked to alert the villagers residing on the banks of Krishna, Warna and Panchaganga rivers.

Vehicular traffic movement on some other routes in the city has also been disrupted and diverted to other ways, the sources added.
