Bengali film awarded in Zanzibar

Kolkata, Jul 29 (UNI) 'Talnabami', the Bengali feature film, directed by Dhananjoy Mandal, was awarded the 'FIRPESCI' prize (International critic award) at the ninth Zanzibar International film restival in Tanzania on July 22.

The jury comprising critics from France, Egypt, Turkey, Russia and Burkina Faso, singled out 'Talnabami', based on a story of Bibhutibushan Bandopadhyay, as an "example of high cinematographic quality achieved with an extremely low budget".

The jury was of the view that the "poetic treatment of the Bengali film will not only touch film critics but also a larger audience." 'Talnabami' has been invited for screening at the Alexandria International film festival to be held at Cairo from September five to ten this year. The film has already participated in international film festivals in Iran, Netherlands and Greece and five other festivals in India.
