Bangladeshi farmers intrude into Indian land, BSF on alert

Silchar, Jul 29 (UNI) The BSF and BDR are on high alert on the either side of 32-km Indo-Bangladesh border in Cachar sector of Asom as Bangladeshi farmers today intruded into Indian land.

The incident occurred a day after Defence Minister Pranab Mukharjee made his statement in Parliament said everything was normal in Cachar sector of Indo-Bangladesh border.

The BSF sources said here that a large number of Bangladeshi farmers, with plough and bullock, entered the plot of Indian land and began tilling there.

However, as soon as the BSF jawans noticed the incident, they waved a red flag and warned them to leave the place.

Asom police have strengthened and alerted second line of defence, along 32-km international border, to help the BSF.

Cachar Superintendent of Police Satyen Gogoi said they had been keeping an eye on the situation and made second line ready for any eventuality.

Although, the BSF and Home Ministry sources denied the reports of a 'war-like situation' in Cachar sector of Indo-Bangladesh border.

BSF Cachar sector DIG Aswani Kumar Singh on Saturday visited the border areas and monitored the situation there.

Mr Singh said every inch of Indian land, including that of 200 acres in question, was under the control of the BSF and there was no question of Bangladeshi farmers to gain control over a plot of land.

Bangladeshi farmers' action, allegedly backed by Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) triggered tension in the Indo-Bangladesh border, had led to war-like situation over past one week with heavy deployment of the BSF.
