Bajrang Dal protests Muslim headcount in BHU
Varanasi, July 29 (UNI) Bajrang Dal activists today staged a demonstration to protest against a Muslim headcount in the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) here.
Led by Jawahar Lal Yadav and Ravindra Keshari, the saffron activists gathered outside the BHU main gate and burnt in effigy the high-level Prime Minister Committee constituted to report the socio-economic and educational status of Muslims in the country.
Alleging a Muslim headcount in all central universities was part of a larger plan of the UPA government to provide reservation to the minority community in educational institutions and government jobs, the activists instead demanded a census of Bangladeshi immigrants in the country.
''Instead of a Muslim headcount, a counting of Bangladeshi immigrants, who are a threat to national security, be conducted,'' Mr Yadav said.
The BHU administration has started the process of a Muslim headcount, following directives from the University Grants Commission (UGC) to all central universities to ascertain the actual number of Muslim students, teachers and employees.
