UP assembly polls on time: Amar Singh
Lucknow, July 28 (UNI) Setting aside speculation about early assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh, the ruling Samajwadi Party today asserted the elections would be held on schedule next year.
Discounting reports in this regards in a section of press about UP assembly polls in October-November, the Samajwadi Party General Secretary Amar Singh said such reports had no basis and the polls would take place on time.
Talking to reporters on the sidelines of seminar on agro industry here, Mr Singh said top party functioneries had to take decision in this regard and there was no move for an early poll.
In reply to a question about the visit of Chief Election Commissioner N Gopalswamy being linked to an early poll, the SP spokesman said it was a routine matter and nothing to do with the poll. ''In any case, the decision of the early poll is to be taken by the Party, if at all,''he pointed out.
Mr Singh said the party was not thinking on the lines of preponing the UP assebly polls which were due in february-March nxt year.
