Two lakh Chikungunya cases reported in Maharashtra
Pune, July 28 (UNI) Over two lakh odd cases of Chikungunya have been reported in Maharashtra although no death has occurred as the disease is not fatal, State Health Minister Vimal Mundada said here today.
Addressing a workshop of state health officials and workers here, Mr Mundada said all the districts of Maharashtra barring Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg have been affected by Chikungunya. However, no death has been reported as the disease is not fatal, he added.
State Health Department will launch an awareness drive from next month and all the gram sabhas will also be sensitised about the issue.
People have been advised to get rid of stagnant water where these mosquitoes, disease cousing adisegypti breed. Patients suffer from fever and itching with skin rashes after getting affected by the virus and lose appetite.
The disease is not infectious. Patients have to take care and rest for at least four to five days with small doses of paracetemol, a health official said.
