Tension in South Orissa town
Berhampur, Jul 27 (UNI) Irate people led by Bajarang Dal supporters today ransacked shops, set ablaze three motorcycles and assaulted a father and son for allegedly selling beef meat in the city.
Police said one Sanser Ahmed was caught while carrying beef meat in his motorcycle. On being interrogated he confessed of taking the meat for his son Md.Shakil in the town.
Soon after the incident, the Bajarang Dal supporters congregated at the spot and attacked Sanser. They ransacked few nearby shops and set fire to three motorcycles, including that of Sanser.
The people also went to Shakil's house at Lala Sahi and attacked him. The police later arrested the father and son and brought the situation under control.
The incident has sparked off strong resentment among the local people and the Bajarang Dal has called for Berhampur Bandh tomorrow.
The authority, meanwhile, has mobilised additional forces in view of the tense situation prevailing in the town following the incident.
