Storage in major reservoirs continues
Hyderabad, July 28 (UNI) Promising a good Khariff crop in the Krishna command areas in Andhra Pradesh, storage in major reservoirs across the river in the state increased to 612.15 TMC ft today in the wake of heavy discharge by upper riparian states of Karnataka and Maharashtra.
With Almatti and Narayanpur in Karnataka receiving significant inflows of 1,53,481 cusecs and 1,64,336 cusecs respectively, following good rains in the catchment areas of the river in Maharashtra, the authorities let out 1,63,681 and 1,73,601 cusecs from the nearly full reservoirs, official sources here said.
Maintaining the level at 1037.29 ft in Jurala, the entry point of the river in Andhra Pradesh, the discharge was stepped up to 1,73,456 cusecs.
With an inflow of 1,72,856 cusecs, the level in Srisailam, the lifeline of Andhra Pradesh, rose to 869.90 ft to take the storage to 187.05 tmc ft against total capacity of 263 TMC ft.
After power generation, 41,603 cusecs was discharged to Nagarjunasagar, where the level stood at 560.3 ft against full level of 590 ft. The discharge was reduced to 11,880 cusecs as the Prakasam Barrage, realised 17,827 cusecs and let out 5418 into the Eastern main canal, 5009 into the western main canal and 150 into the Guntur channel.
In Thungabadra, the level stood was maintained at 1630.95 ft by releasing 6,657 cusecs downstream.
