Stage set for first phase Gram Panchayat polls

Hyderabad, July 28 (UNI) The stage is set for the first phase of the sarpanch and ward elections in Andhra Pradesh tomorrow amid tight security mainly in the Naxalite-infested areas.

''The State Election Commission has made all arrangements for the free and fair elections,'' official sources here said.

The elections on a non-party basis would be held for 6,545 gram panchayats and 65846 wards in 26 revenue divisions tomorrow.

While the second phase of polls would be conducted on August two, the third phase would be held on August six.

In second phase on August two, the polls would be held for 7,886 gram panchayats and 78,612 wards in 28 revenue divisions and in the final phase for 6,923 gram panchayats and 69,024 wards in 25 revenue divisions.

The results will be declared on the same day of the polls.
