Sow a rupee, get a dollar, says Modi

Chennai, July 28 (UNI) Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today wooed the investors from Tamil Nadu saying ''it is a state, where you sow a rupee and reap a dollar.'' Speaking at an interactive session organised by the South Indian Chamber of Commerce and Indusry (SICCI) here this evening, he said the state offered the most conducive environment for investment and doing business.

Most of the companies already had significant presence and were making large investments. This was a proof of the confidence and satisfacation level of the investors in the state, he added.

''Gujarat and Gujaratis have business in their blood. It is a state where you sow a rupee and reap a dollar,'' he said and invited the investors from Tamil Nadu to visit his state and witness the changes taking place and the enormous opportunities it offered.

Mr Modi said Gujarat offered vast investment opportunities in traditional areas like textiles, chemicals, petrochemicals, drugs and pharmaceuticals, plastic processing industries, engineering, automobiles, industrial and textile machinery, mineral-based industries among others.

''There is also scope for emerging areas like IT, IT Enabled Services, Biotechnology and Nanotechnology,'' he said and invited investments in various infrastructural sectors like power, road, ports, industrial parks and SEZs, airports, communication and Institutions of Higher learning.

SICCI President S Ramanathan, in his welcome address, said in the era of globalisation, said synergy between the two states had to be worked out as it would be mutually beneficial.

''The economies of Tamil nadu and Gujarat can complement and support one another,'' he added.
