Show state award winning films on DD

New Delhi, July 28 (UNI) Public broadcaster Doordarshan was today urged in the Lok Sabha to show state award winning regional films to strengthen the country's ''unity in diversity''.

The Prasar Bharati should change its rules so that films winning state-level awards could be shown on Doordarshan, said M Shivanna (JD-S) during the Zero Hour.

The regional films, shown with subtitles in English, will strengthen the nation's ''unity in diversity'', he added.

The present policy of showing only national award winning films was discriminatory, he said.

Screening of regional language films will present the people of different states with the opportunity to understand the cultures of each other through their films, Mr Shivanna said.
