Sensex trips 61 pts to 10,680.23 on heavy profit-booking
Mumbai, Jul 28 (UNI) The BSE Sensex today tripped 61.36 points to 10,680.23 in volatile trading, on account of heavy profit-booking.
The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) Sensitive Index (Sensex) closed at 10,680.23, as compared to the previous close of 10,741.59.
In its intra-day trading, the benchmark index swung 184 points to touch a high of 10,787.65 and a low of 10,603.83 points.
The Asian indices, too, opened firm and grew steady as the day progressed. However, the Dow Jones and Nasdaq had closed in the red as the stock prices declined.
Similarly, the NSE Nifty lost 25 points or 0.80 per cent to close at 3,130.80.
Amongst the sectoral indices on the BSE, the Mid-Cap index surged 1.15 per cent while the Small-Cap index rose 0.71 per cent.
The major gainers on the Sensex were - SBI, up by 4.44 per cent to Rs 796.70, Dr Reddy's was Lab up by 2.56 per cent to Rs 1,402.30, ACC was up by 2.23 per cent to Rs 848.60, Grasim was up by 2.08 per cent to Rs 2,117.50, Ranbaxy was up by 1.75 per cent to Rs 372.10 and Reliance Communication was up by 0.82 per cent to Rs 258.60.
Besides the losers were - TCS, down by 50.98 per cent to Rs 928.00, Bharti Airtel was down by 2.78 per cent to Rs 384.80, Bajaj Auto was down by 2.76 per cent to Rs 2475.45, Hindalco was down by 1.96 per cent to Rs 162.45, Maruti Udyog was down by 1.64 per cent to Rs 768.40, Reliance Industries was down by 1.84 per cent to Rs 980.15, Tata Motors was down by 1.45 per cent to Rs 727.15 and Infosys was down by 1.46 per cent to Rs 1629.10.
The breadth in the broader market was in favour of 1,367 advances as against 1,011 declines, out of total 2,463 shares that traded on the BSE.
