Panvel Tehsildar arrested for accepting bribe

Thane, July 28: The Thane unit of the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) has trapped the Tehsildar of Panvel taluka while accepting a bribe of Rs. 50,000 from a local resident against a favour to her, the officials said tonight.

An official spokesman said here yesterday that the officers were still raiding the residence of the officer in Panvel, Kalyan and teams have been dispatched to his home town Kopargaon to carry out the investigations.

According to ACB sources Sashikala Pai, a resident of Vichanbe in Panvel, had applied to the Nayab tehasildar for the General power of attorney for land on survey no 143/1 which was under consideration. The order was to be confirmed by he local taluka tahasildar after a hearing and after the hearing the Tehasildar Narahari Mahadu Sanap demanded a sum of Rs. 1,00,000 from her for the order but lated agreed to the sum of Rs. 50,000 and was caught by the officials of the ACB at his office while accepting the money this afternoon.

A search on revealed that he had Rs. 1.5 lakhs more on his person, the spokesman said and added that the search of his house also resulted in recovery of golden ornaments and cash also which were being counted presently. The the raids were still on at all the three locations, Kalyan, Panvel and Kopargaon, sources informed.

An offence under Section 7 of 13 (1) (d) and 13(2) of Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the officer with the Panvel city police station the spokesman said.
