Officials misleading CM on Polavaram: Rao
Vijayawada, July 28 (UNI) Eminent Environmentalist T Shivaji Rao today alleged the chief engineers in Irrigation Department were giving wrong directions to Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy on 'Polavaram Project.' Speaking at a UGC regional seminar on environmental pollution with speical reference to pesticide pollution, he claimed the Chief Minister was showing keen interest on irrigation projects in the state only to keep up his 'poll promises.' The Central Water Commission (CWC) had designed and approved the project height of 110 feet.
But the government was bent on increasing the height to 150 feet only on the advice of some government officials, he claimed.
If the government was contemplating on raising the height to 150 ft, there was ampful chances of dam bursting leading to loss of human life.
He urged the government to change the design and divert the route of canal area to save the people.
