Muslim organisations protest Israeli strike
New Delhi, July 28: Islamic leaders today increased pressure on the UPA govt to take a strong position against Israel's bombardment on Lebanon.
Expressing dissatisfaction with the government's token protest against the bombardment, Mufti Maulana Mukarram Ahmed of the Fatehpuri Mosque said India should, instead, threaten to snap diplomatic ties and cancel pending agreements with Israel.
There were rallies organised at gate number one of Jama Masjid and at Jantar Mantar on calls from the Shahi Imam Syed Ahmed Bukhari and the All India Shia-Sunni Front to condemn the Israeli strikes on Lebanon.
Addressing the Friday congregation, he regretted that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had not so far spoken out against the Israeli action.
