Muslim organisations protest Israeli strike on Lebanon
New Delhi, July 28 (UNI) Muslim leaders today stepped up pressure on the UPA government to take a strong postion against Israel over its bombardment of Lebanon.
Rallies condemning the strikes were organised at gate number one of Jama Masjid and at Jantar Mantar on calls from the Shahi Imam Syed Ahmed Bukhari and the All India Shia-Sunni Front.
Expressing dissatisfaction with the government's token protest against the bombardment, Mufti Maulana Mukarram Ahmed of the Fatehpuri Mosque said India should, instead, threaten to snap diplomatic ties and cancel pending agreements with Israel.
Addressing the Friday congregation, he regretted that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had not so far spoken out against the Israeli action.
