Monsoon rains in HP continue

Shimla, July 28 (UNI) Monsoon rains in Himachal Pradesh continued for the third day today with almost all mid and lower hills of the state receiving light to heavy rains during the last 24 hrs, the met office today said.

Several areas of Kangra and Mandi district of the state were lashed by heavy rains, while light to moderate rain lashed other districts of the state.

The met office said Dharamshala in Kangra district recorded the heaviest rainfall of 145.4 mm followed by 112.2 mm at Palampur in Kangra district and 83 mm rain at Jogindernagar in Mandi district during the last 24 hrs till 0830 hrs.

Sunjanpur Tira and Nadaun, both in Hamirpur district, received 28 and 29.5 mm of rain respectively, while Bhang Manali in Kullu district received 26.4 mm rain, it said.

It said both Solang Nullah and Una towns recorded 22.2 mm rain, while Karsog in Mandi district received 20 mm or rain during the last 24 hrs.

The sky remained overcast over Shimla and its adjoining areas throughout the morning with light rains in the latter half of the day today after a clear night sky.

Dense fog in the state capital also disrupted traffic on the town roads, forcing drivers and scooterists to drive with their fog lights on.

The state capital recorded a night temperature of 16.2 degrees, while Sundernagar and Bhuntar recorded minimum temperatures of 22.1 and 19.6 degree Celsius.

The met office has predicted moderate to heavy rains at several places in the state during the next 24 hrs.
