Minority Commission takes cognisance of Christian lady's plea

Lucknow, July 28 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh State Minority Commission has taken serious note of a complaint file by a Christian woman against her father alleging he has detentained her two children in Mumbai.

Deepa Julius, along with her husband, today appeared before the Commission and sought help to get back her daughter Sherry (8) and son Vinci (5), who are allegedly kept illegally by her parents in Mumbai.

She alleged her father, who runs a security agency in Mumbai, has kept her children with him for more than a year and not allowed them to meet their kids.

Deepa married Victor Julius in 1995 against the wishes of her parents. Her father Dharmendra Sandhu is a retired naval officer. He even got her divorced under duress.

However, they remarried on November 19, 2005, but never got their children back.

Ms Neelam Romil Singh, Uttar Pradesh State Minority Commission member, said it was a clear case of minority victimisation and the commission was well within its right to take action in the favour of complainant.

''The commission can move the National Minority Commission, National Human Rights Comission (NHRC) or even direct the Mumbai police commissioner to restore the custody of children,'' she told UNI.
