Mini power plant suffers heavy damage in wall collapse

Mysore, July 28 (UNI) A mini power generation plant, worth Rs 30 crore, belonging to a private company located on the north bank of Krishnaraja Sagar Reservoir, near here, was totally damaged when a portion of a wall collapsed on it.

KRS Executive Engineer Vijayakumar, who was at the spot, said a portion of the wall of the Atria Brindavan Power Plant, which had been generating six megawatts power, collapsed on the hydro mechanical machine, bringing to a grinding halt the functioning of the plant.

The loss suffered due to the mishap was yet to be assessed.

Another plant in the premises, which was supposed to commence within the next 15 days to generate another six mw also suffered damage. The entire project, worth Rs 66 crore, had been approved by the Karnataka Power Corporation.

Stating that there was no damage to the dam following this mishap, Mr Vijayakumar said Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy had enquired about the incident and also about the dam's condition.

Meanwhile, KRS authorities immediately stopped discharge of 3,050 cusecs of water into the Visvesvaraya Canal.

Mr Vijaykumar said a copper bridge would be constructed between the canal and the power generation stations and it would take another 36 hours to stop flow of water to the power station.

Eight people who were working in the unit at the time of mishap rushed out of it as soon as they saw the wall cracking.
