Microsoft's "Project Saksham" for empowering rural community
Chennai, July 28 (UNI) Microsoft India under the new scheme " Project Saksham" launched for the benefit of rural community will create an environment to increase the rural GDP through IT interventions.
Talking to newspersons here today, Microsoft India Chairman Ravi Venkatesan said the Saksham would not only provide local entrepreneurs with the opportunity to set up and manage Information and Communication Technology (ICT) kiosks for content and service, but also provide the local ISV (Independent Software Vendor) community with the opportunity to develop rural content and applications.
The project would partner with government for various projects, optimise use of resources, increase accessibility to rural India and ensure network sustainability through an increase in kiosk usage.
It would also provide credit and banking related services besides offering right technology solutions including operating systems, applications and on ground IT training for rural communities.
He said the project would indentify, nurture and build capacity in organisations willing to run chain of kiosks in rural areas. It will also partner with telecom companies for ensuring afforbadle connectivity and explore affordable renewable energy solutions.
