Malaysians take anti-Israel protest to Rice's door

KUALA LUMPUR, July 28 (Reuters) Thousands of Malaysians today protested against Israel at the front door of a global security forum attended by U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.

Led by the son-in-law of Malaysia's prime minister, the protesters surged through riot police to stand at the front door of the forum venue in Kuala Lumpur, threatening to storm in unless Rice appeared to receive a protest memo.

''Rice get out!'' the protesters chanted after they burned an American flag and Rice in effigy. Inside, Rice was in talks with Asian counterparts on Israel's offensive in southern Lebanon, North Korea's nuclear-arms ambitions and other issues.

Khairy Jamaluddin, son-in-law of the forum's host, Malaysian Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, wrapped himself in a Malaysian flag at one point and shouted ''Dr Rice, please come out. The Malaysian people do not want you here.'' The protesters then sat down, with police watching on, and refused to leave.
