Lions clubs to provide jobs for AIDS affected women

Chennai, Jul 28: In a pioneering initiative aimed at removing the social stigma, the Lions Clubs International District 324-AI would provide jobs to HIV-AIDS affected women.

Talking to newspersons the newly appointed District Governor L Shanth Kumar said here last night that the Lions Clubs have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Positive Women Network (PWN).

The PWN, which was providing solace to the women affected by the disease, would identify potential job seekers and recommend to the Lions Clubs for jobs, based on their educational qualifications.

All the deserving candidates would be provided jobs in various business firms of the Lions Club members.

Dr Shanth Kumar said ''At present PWN have more than 108 members and we planned to provide at least 25 jobs in the first year.'' He said the Lions clubs were also prepared to extend this scheme to an NGO Arunodhaya, which was taking care of men patients affected by AIDS.

As part of the Lions Concern for HIV Patients, he said the Clubs would provide anti retro vital drugs and conduct more counselling to ensure that those affected by AIDS are not neglected from the society.
