KPP against setting up of SEZ on farmland

Siliguri, Jul 28 (UNI) Kamtapur Peoples Party(KPP) will sponsor a 24-hour strike in North Bengal and Assam in September to protest setting up of an SEZ on farmland in North Bengal.

Talking to the media here KPP leader Atul Roy decried the Left Front government's decision to change thousands of acres of farmland into Special Economic Zone(SEZ).

''It is not a hearty decision for the farmers,'' he said.

By announcing to form the SEZ the state government was snatching agriculture land from the farmers, he rued.

Mr Roy said they would organise meetings and rallies from August 31 to oppose the state government's decision.
