Kerala CM calls for preventive measures to face natural fury
Thiruvananthapuram, July 28 (UNI) Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan said instead of waiting for natural calamities, preventive measures should be taken against it.
Inaugurating a workshop on ''Disaster Management Appreciation Programme'' here yesterday for the members of the Assembly, he said the preventive measures should be on the line of steps taken to check spreading diseases.
Mr Achuthanandan said loss of human lives and their assets in the natural calamities was common in the State. The report of including Kerala as a disaster prone State in the country was a concerning issue, he added.
He said to make the Disaster Management practically possible, the State had to constitutue a 'Disaster Management Authority' by following the footsteps of the Centre. Besides this, the Government was also planning to include Disaster Management in school syllabus, he added.
The State Revenue Minister K P Rajendran said for effective Disaster Management system, a three-tier mechaniam was required.
Special training should be given to a 1000-member special battalian team from the police, he added.
Mr Rajendran said a special force would be set up by including members from Homeguard and Fire force.
