Kalam presents awards to educationists

Leh, July 28 (UNI) President A P J Abdul Kalam today highlighted the role of teachers in cultivating creativity among students to make them ''high standard thinkers and planners of future''.

The President was speaking to a big gathering of students and the members of Village Education Committees (VECs) here.

Lauding the role of teachers, the President said a teacher has a noble status in society and a good teacher can always produce creative minds.

He advised students to ''dream big'' which would lead to thoughts, and thoughts to action, and action to defeat problems and achieve goals.

On the occasion, the services of the late Elizer Joldan, a teacher, were recalled. Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad also honoured educationists on the occasion.

A set of primary level text books, prepared under Ladakh Model Sarvashiksha Abhiyan, was presented to the President by LAHDC Chairman, Leh, Tsering Dorje.

The function was attended, among others, by Governor Lt Gen.

(Retd) S K Sinha, Member of Parliament, Ladakh, Thupstan Chhewang and Executive Councillors of LAHDC.
