Impose Ban on use of plastic in UT: Organisation

Pondicherry, July 28 (UNI) The 'Manitha Neya Makkal Seva Iyyakkam' a social service organisation here today urged the Territorial Administration to impose a ban on platic in the Union Territory.

Iyyakkam Organiser Nehru, in a statement here, said though there was hue and cry to make Pondicherry a mini-Singapore, the beauty and hygiene was being spoiled every day as plastic was being used on a largescale here.

He said plastic bags and cups were being thrown into the drainage resulting in blocking the flow of water leading to breeding of mosquitos.

If the beauty of this traditinal city has to be protected, the government should impose a ban on the use of plastic here, he stressed.
