Govt to provide free drinking water to poor in municipalities
Hyderabad, Jul 28 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Municipal Administration Minister K Ranga Rao today announced that a minimum quantity of 5,000 litres of drinking water per month would be supplied to the Below Poverty Line (BPL) families living in slums in municipal areas.
Addressing newspersons here, he said the government had taken the decision of providing safe drinking water to the BPL families free of cost to prevent waterborne diseases in the slum areas.
Stating that various slabs of consumption and rates would be fixed as was done in the capital city and adjoining municipalities, the minister said the government had also instructed the urban local bodies to review their resource and ensure that all leakages were plugged to improve resource base within the available guidelines.
