Flood threat haunts UP

Lucknow, July 28 (UNI) Flood threat is haunting people of Uttar Pradesh with Sharda in Paliakalan flowing 13 cm above the danger mark.

Meanwhile, Ghagra (Algin Bridge) was flowing 17 cm above the red mark.

Central Water Commission (CWC) said all major rivers including Ganga, Yamuna, Ken, Gomti, Rapti and Gandak were rising along their course.

Neemsaar received maximum rainfall at 10 cm, followed by Kalpi (7 cm), Chatnag (6 cm), while Allahabad, Ghazipur and Bhatpurwaghat received (5 cm) of rainfall respectively, weatherman said.

Similarly, medium to heavy rainfall is likely at many places in the next 24 hours.

A report from Balrampur said several houses have been marooned following land erosion in Pahari Nala.

People had to wade through knee deep muddy water at many places and the incessant rainfall has also caused disruption in telecom services.

Meanwhile, the toll in rainfall triggered incidents climbed to 120 after 10 people died in the UP capital during the last 48 hours.

Three people died and two severely injured when their house collapsed in Kathwara village.

Malti (3) in Bahadurpur village and Mangla Devi (50) in Kakori police station area died in house collapse incidents.

Further, lightning struck Ram Naval Gupta in Alambagh police station area, while two people were electrocuted in Damodar nagar.

House collapse incident also claimed two lives in Jaukhandi village and Malihabad area. Five people, including two children were wounded in Patanala area.

District administration has announced 50,000 ex-gratia to family members of the deceased.
