Even PM's residence is not safe: SP

New Delhi, July 28 (UNI) Samajwadi Party members today expressed concern over the security lapse in the residence of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, as exposed by television footages showing a car with three people entering the high-security area last night.

''We are more concerned because even the official residence of the Prime Minister is not safe,'' SP member Ramjilal Suman said in the Lok Sabha during zero hour.

He said the government should openly admit the ''security lapse'' and should make public the identity of the occupants of the car.

Mr Suman said the incident was all the more serious because the car had without authorisation entered the 7, Race Course residence when a meeting of the cabinet committee on security was in progress inside.

He called for a statement on the incident either by the Prime Minister or the Home Minister.

His party colleague Kanwar Rewati Raman Singh said the issue was very serious as it involved the residence of the Prime Minister. He said an inquiry should be held to find out how the car had crossed two barricades despite they being manned by the Special Protection Group (SPG).

BJP deputy leader V K Malhotra said though there was a security lapse, the PMO had denied it.

He said the very fact that the three trespassers were put behind bars was a clear indication that there was indeed a lapse.

He said the government should take the country into confidence as India had lost two Prime Ministers in terrorist attack.
