Earthquake shakes Taiwan, tremors felt in Taipei

TAIPEI, July 28: An earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale rattled Taiwan today, the Central Weather Bureau said, with strong tremors felt in Taipei.

There were no immediate reports of damage.

Earthquakes occur frequently in Taiwan, which lies on a seismically active stretch of the Pacific basin.
