DD Dy Director General announce telecast of Telugu classics
Hyderabad, July 28 (UNI) Doordarshan Deputy Director-General Ashok Jailkhani today announced the telecast of Telugu classics on local Doordarshan and released a brochure 'Muthyala Haaram 2006' that would give full details of the 63 episodes depicting variety of works of great writers and scholars in Telugu literature.
Speaking to newsmen here, Mr Ashok said in order to sustain viewers interest, Doordarshan had commissioned creative producers for making high quality programmes in the selected genre of Indian classics.
He said during 2005-06, Doordarshan commissioned nearly 800 half-an-hour episodes in 15 languages including Telugu on Indian classics.
The works of eminent authors under 'Indian Classics' series have been selected by the Core Committee on Indian Classics under the Chairpersonship of Chitra Mudgal, Member, Prasar Bharati Board.
The Committee took into consideration Sahitya Akademic Award winning books, Jnanpeeth Award winning writers and other eminent classics, he explained.
Mr Ashok said Doordarshan had already commenced telecasting a series under Indian Classics titled Katha Sarita' in Hindi from May 14, 2006.
The telecast of Telugu Classics would be from July 31 on DD-8 and DD-1 from Monday to Friday, he added.
Explaining about the Telugu Classics, Doordarshan Kendra, Hyderabad, Director P Madhusudan Rao said Telugu literature was a great treasure with a variety of works, which portrayed human values relevant even today.
He said 13 episodes were made on 'Kantham Kathalu' of Munimanikyam Narsimha Rao, 13 episodes on 'Katama Raju Kathalu' of Tangirala Subba Rao, 13 episodes on classical Andhra dance forms and 13 episodes on 'Andhrula Charitra Samskruti' of Sadaguru Shivananda Murthy.
The remaining 11 episodes were based on the works of Koduri Kousalya Devi, Baliwada Kantha Rao, Vasireddy Sitadevi, Gollapudi Maruti Rao, Avasrala Ramakrishna Rao, Gunturu Shehendra Sharma, VS Ramadevi, Arudra, Sivaraja Subbalaxmi, Raavi Shastri and Abburi Chaya Devi, he explained.
