Congress urges Liberhan Commission to prosecute Advani for perjury

New Delhi, July 28 (UNI) The Congress today called upon the Liberahan Commission, probing the Ayodhya demolition case, to prosecute senior BJP leader L K Advani for lying in his affidavit in maintaining he had not made a speech prior to the demolition of the disputed structure on December 6, 1992.

''The book authored by Mr D B Rai, a former BJP MP and then Senior Superintendent of Police, Faizabad, categorically states that Mr Advani did make a speech,'' Congress spokesman Abhishek Singhvi told reporters here.

''Just as the truth about Kandahar has come out from former External Affairs Minister Jaswant's book, so also the truth about Ayodhya is now struggling to come out from Mr Rai's book, which has exposed the lies told by Mr Advani in an affidavit to the Liberhan Commission while Union Home Minister and Deputy Prime Minister,'' he said.

Quoting from the book, Mr Singhvi said both the BJP and the VHP were not in favour of finding a solution to the Ayodhya issue for ''political reasons'' as they wanted to reach the seat of power by keeping the issue alive.

''They wanted to keep the pot boiling for political reasons,'' he said, adding that this ''exposed the double character of the BJP and its top leaders who believe in telling lies and in duplicity.'' This is a sereious act of lying which shows the hypocracy of Mr Advani and he must be prosecuted by the Liberhan Commission for perjury, Mr Singhvi said.
