Cong Govt committed to welfare of Muslims: N T Reddy
Hyderabad, July 28 (UNI) The Congress Government here was committed to the welfare of the Muslims, party spokesman N Tulasi Reddy today said.
In a statement here, he said the state government had taken several measures during the last two years, for the economic development of Muslims.
Stating the Opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) had no right to criticse the government in this regard, he alleged that it had not done enough for the Muslims during its nine-year regime.
Mr Reddy said the government had also increased the budget allocation from Rs 36.61 crore, during the TDP's regime in 2002-03, to Rs.69.60 crore in this fiscal and extended financial assistance to 1,46,000 people from the community.
Pointing out that the government had taken steps to provide hostel facilities to Muslim students, Mr Reddy said the Congress had allocated more seats for the community in the recent civic polls.
He welcomed the government's decision to open a seperate department for Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) in the State Secretariat.
