Civic polls on 2001 Census: SEC

Erode, Tamil Nadu, July 28 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu State Election Commissioner (SEC) T Chandrasekharan said the ensuing local body elections would be held on the basis of 2001 Census.

Talking to reporters after a meeting with the district collectors, here, the SEC said all arrangements for the elections would be completed soon.

As many as 1,31,684 representatives are to be elected in the state to discharge functions and duties of the civic bodies.

Photo identity cards was mandatory for exercising franchise, Mr Chandrasekharan said.

The SEC directed the district collectors to identify sensitive areas to undertake precautionary measures ahead of the polls.
