Centre asks states to submit rural progress card online

New Delhi, July 28 (UNI) The Centre has urged the states to submit their monthly progress card on rural development schemes online.

The switch to online would help cut the delay in furnishing of the reports, a yardstick of the progress of development work in villages, said Rural Development Minister Raghuvansh Prasad Singh.

As per guidelines of various rural development schemes, state governments are presently required to furnish the monthly progress report of each scheme to the Rural Development Ministry by the 10th day of every month.

''However, there is a delay in submission of Monthly Progress Reports in some of the cases as the reports are basically prepared at the Block level and then submitted to the District authorities who in turn submit to the State authorities,'' Mr Prasad told the Lok Sabha today.

After the compilation of the district-wise data, the states submit their reports to the Ministry, which has put in place a comprehensive system of monitoring implementation and evaluation of the impact of the development programmes, including utilisation of funds, he added.

Besides sending the monthly progress reports online, the states have also been urged to create awareness about the schemes, ensure transparency and people's partnership as well conducting social audit through the Gram Sabhas.

The government has also made it mandatory to constitute Village Level Monitoring Committees for each work under the flagship Sampoorna Grameen Rozgar Yojana.
