Centre accords clearance to Rajiv Sagar project
New Delhi, July 28 (UNI) The Ministry of Environment and Forests has accorded Environment clearance to the Rs 4000 crore Dummugudem Lift Irrigation Project (Rajiv Sagar) in Khammam District capable of irrigating 400,000 acres of land when completed in two phases.
Andhra Pradesh Special Representative Dr Mallu Ravi said the project involving both lift cum gravity canal envisages lifting of 16.17 TMC of water from Godavari River from Pamulapally village in Aswapuram Mandal.
He said that the water conductor system connects five storage reservoirs of which three reservoirs are existing. The project required total land of 4,893 acres of which 852 acres was forestland and involved no displacement of human population. The project was accorded site clearance in May this year and would provide drinking water to several villages.
