Banking services affected in Meghalaya
Shillong, Jul 28 (UNI) Banking services came to a standstill in Meghalaya following the nationwide strike by Bank employees and officers to press their charter of demands.
According to Bank sources, most of the nationalised Banks worked with minimal staff as many employees abstained from duty, affecting normal business.
The strike call was given by the Bank Employees Federation of India (BEFI), All India Bank Employees Association (AIBEA) and All India Bank Officers Association (AIBOA).
The agitators were demanding withdrawal of the RBI circular on outsourcing of Banking services and clearing operations, besides withdrawal of amendment to Sec 12 (2) of the Banking Regulation Act on removal of ceiling on voting rights in Banks. They also demanded the immediate filling up of over one-lakh vacancies.
Banks like SBI, RBI, NABARD and Co-operative Banks had also supported the nationwide strike.
