Banking operations hit in TN due to strike

Chennai, Jul 28: Banking operations in Tamil Nadu were crippled following a one-day strike by the Officers and employees to press their demands.

The strike call was given by the Bank Employees Federation of India (BEFI), All India Bank Employees Association (AIBEA) and All India Bank Officers Association (AIBOA).

They were demanding withdrawal of the RBI circular on outsourcing banking services and clearing operations, besides withdrawal of the amendment of Sec 12 (2) of Banking Regulation Act on removal of ceiling on voting rights in Banks.

The strike was also to demand filling up of nearly one lakh vacancies through recruitments and expeditious extension of one more option for pension.

BEFI sources told sources here today that thousands of bank employees and officers participated in the strike. They also staged a demonstration in the city in which leaders of BEFI, AIBEA and AIBOA participated.
