Bandh in memory of Charu Majumder cripples life in Nadia, Siliguri
Siliguri/Krishnagar, July 28 (UNI) CPI (ML) sponsored 12-hour Nadia district and Siliguri town bandh, to protest custodial death of Charu Majumder on this day in 1972, paralysed life in these two areas of West Bengal today.
Majumder, founder of Naxalite movement had in Lalabazar lock up in 1972.
Educational institutions and business establishemnts were closed and vehicles were off the roads.
In Siliguri, although local court was opened but the attendance was thin and long distance bus services to Gangtok, Darjeeling, Orissa, Bihar and Asom were suspended for precautionary measure.
In Nadia, all local municipalities were closed, however, buses on NH 34 and train plyed as usual.
No one had been arrested so far and bandh was spontaneous, official sources said.
