Asian gymnastics meet to be inaugurated tomorrow
Surat, July 28 (UNI) The third Asian Gymnastics Championship will be officially inaugurated at the Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Stadium here tomorrow by Chief Minister Narendra Modi.
Around 338 participants from 21 countries including China, North Korea, South Korea, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Bangladesh, Hong Kong, Iran, Malyasia, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Syria, Sri Lanka, Jordan, Yemen and Kuwait will participate in the meet. Pakistan and Iraq have not been able to participate in the meet.
Each country will send four boys and eight girls for the meet, said Jayant Shukla, Joint Secretary, Gymnastics Federation of India(GFI).
''An important aspect of the meet is that a number of Olympic teams like China, Korea, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan are participating in the meet,'' he added.
The actual competition in various events like rhythmic gymnastics and artistic gymnastics will begin on July 30. The concluding ceremony will be on August 3.
