156 naxal supporters detained in Gadchiroli

Nagpur, July 28 (UNI) Police today took into custody 156 supporters of naxalite movement of different groups from various sensitive areas of naxal-infested Gadchiroli district as the special Anti-naxal operation intensified in the district.

Gadchiroli superintendent of police (SP) Shirish Jain said that keeping in view of the possible destruction by naxals during their Shahid Week commenced from today, strict precautionary measures were taken to thwart their destructive attempts by deploying Anti-naxal operation squad sleuths with arms at various points in the district.

He said 49 supporters of naxalites movement were detained at sub-divisions of Etapalli, 15 at Sironcha, 69 at Aheri, ten at Bhamaragad, 13 in Kurkheda. they were later released, he said.

A peace procession to protest against naxalites activities was also taken out at Bhamaragad in which a numbner of tribals, traders, businessmen and journalists participated, he added.
