'World Cup would be a success'

New Delhi, July 27 (UNI) ICC and organisers of next year's cricket World Cup today advised the Doubting Thomas brigade to stop speculation as they promised a successful hosting of the extravaganza in the Caribbean.

Unveiling the logo and the mascot here this evening, Grenada Prime Minister Keith Mitchell sought to allay the fears ranging from accommodation and travel to security.

''Let me take the opportunity to assure you all that accommodation won't be a problem,'' Mr Micthell said and added, ''We will address all security concerns and special arrangements would be made to ensure that no untoward incident takes place during the event.'' The Grenada premier also announced that cricket buffs will not require different visas for the event which was spread over 12 stadia in nine countries.

''To make travel hassle-free, we have decided to issue a single visa for all the nine countries during the event,'' he said.

Meanwhile, tournament director for the World Cup Chris Dehring said the construction work for the event was as per schedule.

''The construction work is going on as scheduled. Brand new stadiums will come up for the event,'' he said and informed that the pitch testing had already started.

''The ticketing has already started for the event and people from over 100 plus countries are seeking tickets,'' he said adding, ''People had apprehensions but it turned into appreciation.'' Meanwhile International Cricket Council (ICC) chief executive Malcom Speed defended the decision to award the tournament to the West Indies.

''West Indies have earned the right to host the World Cup,'' he said.

''They gave cricket great flair, excitement and passion. It was rather long overdue,'' Mr Speed added.
